Usually when we get our drivers license we drive on the road, not straight into the gates of Eisenhower High School right before the bell for first period. But hey, at least they were on time?
It was around 8 a.m. in the morning, the weather was gloomy and hushed with a cold whisper that made our skin shiver. What once was a drought of our county had morphed into a wet puddle with slippery roads. Everything was going normal, your average day… unless you were near the K building of course. The sounds of crashes, and panic disrupting the peaceful morning. Police sirens following afterwards. Oh, wouldn’t you know it, there’s a car in the gate. Who knows, maybe the driver was just really excited to be here.
Although accidents aren’t anything to laugh at, this specific situation seemed to have caused an uproar of mixed emotions. A divide between the students and teachers. With teachers and other staff members jumping in to assist the scenario, police being called, investigations ongoing. Whereas students have taken out their phones, posting it on their media with captions consisting of “Uh you can’t park there.”, “How do you get past the sidewalk?”, “That doesn’t look like the road.”
With what would have been a safety concern had wound up into a laughing stock and utter disbelief amongst the students of Eisenhower. A baffling situation, it was so out of the ordinary. But what about the people involved? After asking some of our eagle teachers who happened to be there at the moment, it turns out there was a collateral effect, with at least three cars involved. (with the possibility of a fourth car.)
What had supposedly occurred was that there was a lack of awareness altogether. A chain of reactions starting from the crosswalk between our school’s parking lots at the front office. What has happened was that a car drove through the street, not waiting for the pedestrian lights to finish flashing, which caused them to crash into an unaware driver (who was pulling to the right) to hit a parked car by the K building due to the sudden impact and force.
“I was in class until suddenly I hear a loud commotion coming from outside, and me and this other teacher rushed out and we saw that there was a car in our gate.” – One of our teachers who was near the accident.
Which is the infamous car that students are posting and talking about. Some are saying that there was a fourth car who hit the initial vehicle which caused the chain reaction. But that’s just word of the mouth. While police are still trying to figure things out, it is important to note that there is no direct fault on just one person. It was a series of incidents filled with the wrong place, wrong time, and a lack of awareness. The first car should have waited until the pedestrian lights were done flashing, while the other should have checked their surroundings more, and the third car shouldn’t have been parked so close to a school zone. But neither of that happened, hence why there were three cars impacted, two to get towed, one to be able to drive off.
But thankfully, there weren’t any serious injuries. There were some minor wounds, and high blood pressure around but nothing fatal. This should be a reminder for not just our eagles, but for anyone else on the road that it is important to be more aware of where you are at, and what to avoid when you are met in situations like this.
