YCAS stands for the Youth Climate Action Summit, which has been held at IKE in previous years. This year, the summit will take place on Tuesday, April 22— which also happens to be Earth Day. It will be held after school in the quad from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
The Youth Climate Action Summit (YCAS) is an event that gives students and young people an exciting opportunity to learn more about climate change and become part of the solution.YCAS allows students to participate in activities and workshops where they can come up with solutions to tackle climate change—not just globally but in their own communities. It also gives students the chance to listen to and speak with guest speakers such as environmental activist, scientist, or local leaders working on climate-related issues.YCAS encourages students and young people to become more involved in discussions about climate change and related policies that affect their everyday lives.
One of the goals of the Youth Climate Action Summit is to educate students about climate change, including the science behind it as, well as it’s global and local impacts. YCAS also promotes climate leadership by motivating students to take initiative in their own schools and neighborhoods to support environmental change. Ultimately, the summit aims to inspire students to stay involved with environmental advocacy beyond the event—and to consider future careers in science or activism.YCAS supports students with tools, strategies, and resources to take action, and it helps them connect them with like—minded peers, mentors, and environmental organizations.
The Youth Climate Action Summit is an incredible opportunity for students to learn about the environment, take meaningful action, and connect with others who share the same passion for protecting this small and beautiful planet we call home.
