On September 10, 2025 a mother lost her son, a wife lost her husband, and two children lost their father. As they mourn their loss, there are people who celebrate the death of Charlie Kirk.
Kirk was a highly known political activist, media personality and co-founder of organization Turning Point USA. Kirk was most known for his association with President Donald Trump and for hosting debate events at colleges with Turning Point USA. At these events he expressed his opinions towards political topics such as Trump vs Harris, abortion, religion, illegal immigration and LGBTQ rights. When it came to topics such as the ones mentioned many people disagreed and considered him to be closed minded and frankly a terrible person because of his opinions. Not only did they disagree with his political views but it appears that he was killed for his opinions.
Kirk was hosting a debate event at Utah Valley University, while discussing the topic of gang violence a single shot was heard and he was shot in the neck. It was reported that witnesses saw blood fly and he was rushed to the hospital only to be reported dead later that day. Not long after his death was reported, society began to take pleasure in his passing, making jokes online and stating “he deserved it” or “about time.” Regardless of his views on politics, minority groups and religion, nobody should be punished with death for using their first amendment right to express their opinion.
Charlie Kirk had a family, who, at the time of writing this article, was reported to be present at the time of the shooting. Yes, Kirk had different opinions and political views but what importance does that have when those kids wake up the next day and no longer have a father.
Society may believe that he deserved it but any opinion he expressed was his constitutional right. As a US citizen it is his first amendment right to have opinions, views and thoughts but it is never correct to take a life that is not yours. His ideals/values were neither wrong nor violent , especially because his organization’s mission statement was to educate young minds in conservative principles. Nobody is forcing society to mourn Kirk or honor him, but just as society has free will and freedom of speech so did he. Kirk did not deserve to die for his words and his family does not deserve to experience the loss.
