The First Club President of The Journalism club

In the summer of 2019 Yanira was taking her junior English classes so that she could get ahead and either graduate early or take more electives her senior year. During this summer school she would go on to ask the most important question for the future of the journalism club and the Golden Gazette.

“Why does Eisenhower not have a student newspaper?”

I gave her the same answer that was given to me “we have had one in the past but recently students have not been interested in writing.”

Her response, “Well I am.”

I loved her enthusiasm and asked her to come see me during the fall semester, fully believing she would not come to start a student paper. I was wrong.

Not only did she showed up to my classroom on the first day of school she brought 40 friends with her.
The Journalism club was reborn and the Golden Gazette, an online newspaper was born. Yanira lead the new club through our growing pains as we learned how to run an online newspaper.
She continued to lead us during lockdown where she inspired the future leaders of the Golden Gazette.
This New website is just the newest iteration of the work that one student at Eisenhower Brought to life.
