LA is a very known and popular city across the world. Most people have heard of LA at least once in their life so it’s not like it’s anything new. But to sum it up, LA is a promise-filled city that offers not only chances of success but also a place many people call home. Not only are there many exciting and historical places to visit that attract many tourists but LA is also a part of the culture. As of last year in June, Los Angeles has been experiencing many political problems from the government. One of the main problems that is currently happening in the city is the ICE raids. These raids aren’t just happening in the city though but in most states around the country, Los Angeles just is one of the major cities being affected by the ICE raids.
Since the ICE raids are one of the most notable issues that LA has been facing. The raids have affected lots of aspects of Los Angeles’s whole glam of what it represented. Even now, LA is still seen as dangerous to everyone, not just because of the illegal immigrants. Ever since that day in June of 2025, ICE has detained and deported over 600 thousand illegal immigrants. The first day this all started was on a Friday of June, where ICE agents, who were sent by the Trump Administration, arrested multiple immigrants in the Fashion District of Los Angeles. Since that day, not only has the fear and frustration towards ICE and the Trump Administration has grown exponentially but so has the resentment towards Trump as well. Something both Trump and ICE have both given every single state around the country is fear and that’s stuff that the president of our country shouldn’t be doing. As cited from NBC News journalists Jon Schuppe and Erik Ortiz “In the latest fatal shooting on Jan. 24, a federal agent killed Alex Pretti, 37, just weeks after the fatal shooting of Renee Good, also 37. Both were U.S citizens…” News like this isn’t someone who is here legally wants to hear since now they know that they’re not even safe from ICE. With these problems also come repercussions such as children’s mental health.
After the Trump Administration ordered ICE into LA and the rest of the country, there have been major consequences that have come from this. One of those main consequences is the effect that the ICE raids have on children. Once a family member or just an entire family of undocumented immigrants are detained, the children are separated from their families and put into the ORR (Office of Refugee Resettlement) which then they’re placed into either foster care or another service of child care. Children who go through this aren’t just affected physically but also mentally. Studies have shown that children have been developing mental illnesses due to the stress and how their mind reacts to this huge situation. Such illnesses vary from person to person as do so many other things but they could be as follows; depression, anxiety, PTSD, surprisingly cancer, strokes, diabetes, and heart problems. All of the effects that are something to be alerted by and not to be ignored. As quoted from the American Immigration Council “A 2010 study of immigration-related parental arrests (at home or worksites) found that the majority of children experienced at least four adverse behavioral changes in the first six months following a raid or arrest.” Children shouldn’t have to go through this at such a young age and to carry issues because of it is just horrible.
The ICE raids are just hurting not only the people physically but mentally too as in crushing their hope and spirit for the country. Trump has no intention of stopping the ICE raids and will continue to do everything in his power to continue mass deportation of illegal immigrants. He cannot even begin to fathom the chaos and destruction he’s caused hundreds of thousands of families around the country. There should be more appropriate and acceptable ways of approaching the issue of illegal immigrants in the country instead of hurting, arresting and destroying people’s lives. Trump should’ve seen a bigger picture before he decided to do what he started doing. My condolences to all the people that have to go through the stress, fear and all the other emotions you may be feeling.
