The Invincible comics are about a teenage boy named Mark who’s soon to be a high school graduate. Mark would gain his powers: this is because his dad is a Viltrumite, Viltrumites being an alien race who possess great strength and power. Though, Mark’s mother, Debra, isn’t a Viltrumite but just a human. Until now, Mark hasn’t been in any superhero activities due to him not having powers: but it didn’t start off good. Yes, Mark, also known as Invincible, would go on to have good and happy moments. But, despite all the good things happening; it would mostly be bad happening to him. The year the Invincibles comics took place is unknown, but by watching and reading Invincible it’s shown to be set in the early 2000’s with the show taking place in the 2010’s. Over the course of the Invincible comics a lot of it took place on earth, but also took place on space and other planets. In the end, all the dramatic and depressing events of Invincible would all lead to an end with Mark having a peaceful ending with his family.
Along with Invincible being a hit with the comics, it also became a hit with the animated series. The Invincible comics would become an animated show due to Robert Kirtman’s success with his career adaptation of the Walking Dead. The Walking Dead showed a market for mature, dark tone, character stories. According to an article by FM, it states, “Given that The Walking Dead would often air 16 episodes per season, each with ads spots interspersed, the show would generate anywhere from $40 million to $60 million in ad revenue per season.” Though, Invincible wouldn’t be a live action due to its high violence. According to an article in Den Geek, by Alec Bajalad, “According to Kirkman, animation was the only way to properly tell this story.” Invincible has been shown to be a good seller.
Invincible has made $500 million due to people buying subscriptions to Prime Video to watch Invincible. According to an article at THEWRAP, by Daniel Quinaud, he states, “According to Parrot Analytics’ Streaming Economics, “Invincible” has contributed nearly $500 million in subscribed revenue to Amazon since its first season”. While also getting the Invincible comics more attention and readings leading to more people finishing the series. The animated Invincible series still needs to finish, though season four is something that’s been anticipated since the ending of season three. The Invincible fandom still lives on through: TikTok edits, fan theories, and fan animations.
