Everytime in class it is common to hear a teacher say “Don’t use AI!” but it makes me think to myself is AI helpful or can it be detrimental to a student’s future. This is shown when students think that AI can generate answers for them and they do not have to work in order to find out the answer. This can be harmful for the student’s problem solving skills which are essential in everyday life. If these skills are not learned the students may not be able to function properly nor get their life together after high school due to not learning the skills that are necessary to live a normal life.
The college of education states, “Relying more and more on AI may reduce the teacher-to-student interactions and relationships and take away from the social-emotional aspects of learning. If those interactions diminish, students’ social skills and interpersonal development will suffer.” Therefore if the trend continues with AI used on an everyday basis people skills will slowly decline, scaring the future generation and can lead to many outcomes the scariest one being an all technology world. There are many reasons why AI can be harmful in a student’s future but what are the positives? It can help students that can not learn by face-to-face interactions and struggle with speaking. As a result the student can learn more from what the teacher can try to teach them due to everybody needing to learn a specific way since we are unique.
While also being a tutor in some ways to students, AI can be a relief to teachers by helping them on assignments by either grading or creating them. This implies that teachers will have more time on their hands which can give them more opportunities to live a better life or do what they have on their bucket list. With AI evolving everyday it makes its stamp on time showing it’s not here to leave either, there are many ways that both students and teachers can use it the right way where it can’t do the work for the student nor even need a teacher for that matter. Teachers can imply AI into assignments while using new tools which is good for further advanced technology. We are still using our everyday problem-solving skills which are necessary in humans. The bottom line is that AI can be helpful or damaging to students but it is all based on how we choose to use the tools that are given to us which is a balance of learning and making it easier on yourself.
