One singular action that will always strike fear in the hearts of every student attending Eisenhower high school is without a doubt the dreadful act of checking one’s grades. Nothing less than the strongest feelings of fear, anxiety, and utter anguish is evoked within one’s soul when their fingers are forced to press that gradebook tab.

For those unaware or simply unknowable to what studentVue is, studentVue is a web-application designed to allow students to view information regarding their school. There are many other applications similar to studentvue, but studentvue is the app that schools in the rialto unified school district uses.

Despite studentVue seeming to be a useful tool, many students still fear booting up the website. You see, the fear of studentVue is not simply that the website lies in one tiny tab, the gradebook tab. For many Eisenhower students, studentVue is the only way to check grades, and because of this people have grown to fear the website since so much rides on having good grades.

Last year, I went 4 months in a row not checking my studentVue since I was scared of seeing my grade go down. After weeks and weeks with more and more assignments, projects, and big tests being graded. My fear of opening it only grew. Eventually, like all students, I had  to face the music and take a peek. Suffice to say those fears largely exaggerated what I thought I’d see, but even after the great reveal, the fear never faded. Like a lingering smell, it just stayed…for a while… making me uncomfortable.
