Jurassic Park is one of my favorite movies ever so this is my very biased opinion on the whole franchise. I’ll be starting with, what in my opinion is the worst one.
When I try to defend Jurassic World Dominion it’s really hard and the only real argument I have for it is that your brain should be shut off when watching it because what person turns on a Jurassic movie with modern science existing and doesn’t just enjoy it. But the Giganotosaurus design is not accurate and doesn’t do anything to make it a memorable dino villain like the spino in JP3 with the only true saving grace i can give it is specific to me and its in the way the Giganotosaurus dies, cause it dies to both Rexy and the Therizinosaurus which is my favorite dinosaur that got a spotlight in the franchise (yay). The cameos from the original cast were great but to me felt forced once they were all together, and with the newer cast of characters. So it’s at the bottom of the list.
The next movie in the ranking is Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom. It’s here right behind JP3 because JP3 has more nostalgia acting in its favor. Fallen kingdom is a little bit forgettable but does have its good parts like the indoraptors design and most of the movie is fine with just some parts that have been made fun of. The beginning of the movie is my favorite part of it and the Brachisaurus dying in the pyroclastic flow and it being completely engulfed in smoke even though this entire island part of the movie is also home to Owen being inches away from lava and surviving in the pyroclastic flow (plot armor at its finest). The Indoraptor wasn’t handled as best it could have, it could have been a lot scarier, but it wasn’t handled horribly. But all that earns it second to last place.
Jurassic Park 3 is third to last place because I don’t think it has any of the magic that the others have to some level or replicate to some degree. It has its goofyness which is puts it here but not as much as the character assination they do to Alan Grant, he had learned kids aren’t as bad as he thinks and grows in the first JP movie by looking after the kids, but is completely separated from Eile at the beginning of the movie because he didn’t want kids. The pterosaurs were nice though, along with spino which is the best part and best dino villain killing a Rex and chasing the humans like its honor depended on it. That gets it 3rd place behind the first Jurassic World. next up is the first Jurassic World. This movie doesn’t exactly have the magic that the first JP has but it has its own modern version for lack of a better term of the magic. It was a solid movie from beginning to end. It had a great dino villain in the Indominus Rex. Its intelligence and the fact that it wasn’t fully grown in the movie made it terrifying. The raptor pack was amazing other than blue being put in the wringer getting her whole pack killed in the final fight in the movie, otherwise they themselves helped the indominus be even scarier when we learned it was part raptor. The human characters were all pretty good as well, except some moments and the kids being a slight bit annoying but not too much. Just the presence of all the different dinosaurs and flying and aquatic reptiles was really cool.
The next movie in 3rd place is Jurassic World Rebirth, the newest in the franchise. It was a really good movie and didn’t really have any glaring weak points but also didn’t have any really strong points either. The movie had its strength in how it handled the pacing of its story keeping the beginning slow so we know the characters and as soon as its done the movie moves fast, which was just perfect. The river scene pulled from the original book was great as well as the hybrids in the movie and the normal dinosaur scenes being all great actually getting some emotion out of me. And my only real complaint with the movie is that it made me hate the little girl in her first minute on screen, so i would have loved it if she had died in but no the movie has to redeem her by giving her a little baby dino right before she’s put into danger in the river scene. I think they could have made the raptor pterosaur hybrids intro better as well as given the DistortisRex more screen time.
The next movie in second place is Jurassic Park Lost World. It has some of the magic left over from the first something none of the others have in their corners and it was just a cool sequel with Ian Malcom as the main character, and I think he was great as the main character. The reason for going to Isla Sorna was a good concept. Once on the island the dinosaurs were really cool and treated like animals just living for the most part only being interrupted by the humans trying to capture them. The Buck and Doe rex’s were the best and the junior rex was adorable. And the highlight of the film for me was the rex back on the boat letting junior kill the guy that had previously tortured junior to hunt his parents.
Now the undoubtedly best of all of them is the First Jurassic Park that had unprecedented magic that very few movies in general can match. Rexy was awesome everytime she was on screen and the raptors were terrifying and perfectly built up to and the intro to the movie was amazing all the way until the real horror starts. Every character in the movie gets time and none feel like there for no reason. The dinosaurs in the movie were beautifully made real and the ending was perfect completing every thread that was being woven from beginning to end. The whole thing will always be perfect despite the inaccuracies and the fact that most of the Dinosaurs are from the Cretaceous period and not the Jurassic.

I love the Jurassic Park franchise, and have read the books. While I haven’t seen the newest movie (and therefore did not read your paragraph about that one) I agree with your overall assessment of the movies and what made them great. I do believe that part of what made Jurassic World great was also the way they brought the actual vision of Jurassic Park to fruition. I always wondered what one of these movies would have been like had there been guests at the park from the get-go, and this movie shows us that.
