The Black Student Union Club is an African American club here at Eisenhower High School. Ms. Bailey, who is a Spanish AP teacher in room M5, and Ms. Davis, who teaches Art in room J6, are both the “leaders”. But, in their own words, they have said, “The students make the club, we just organize it”. The club focuses on Black Excellence and strives to prevent our history from fading. These meetings are mostly arranged in Ms. Bailey’s room during 1st lunch, while the meetings are arranged in Ms. Davis’s room for the second lunch. You must sign in every Thursday when the meeting occurs and participate in the discussion and activities.
The first field trip the BSU club attended was located in Pomona, as we attended Ms. Davis’s art studio, where we got to sit down, listen to important speakers, create art creations, and play games. Ms. Davis’s art studio wasn’t only a powerful motivation for the students, but it was heartwarming to see the beauty of African American culture in just one piece of art. Group bonding time was had as they played Uno, Chess, and danced to music. This experience is one we won’t forget and will always be marked down in the books.
The Black Student Union club members play a special role as we have officers, secretary, president, treasurer and much more. If you aren’t selected for any of those big positions, you are still making a big impact in the club. Black Student Union has had 2 field trips starting off 2025-2026 and hopes to count on many more. On October 25, 2025, we were taken to the BSU conference located on the University of Riverside campus, and were enlightened by guest speakers, fun activities, brainstorming sessions, and much more. This event touched many students and staff’s hearts as our black community came together and had an impactful event.
Every year near college applications or admissions, juniors and seniors attend the HBCU tour, going on the plane and touring in Washington, Atlanta, Alabama, and other HBCU colleges. The tour is all covered and paid for as we are viewing the Historical Black Colleges that we may never get a chance to explore. You will need to fill out an application for this program, but it is worth the writing and the wait!. Many Eisenhower students think it’s an ordinary club based on speaking and writing. But this isn’t the case; we are a Club representing our school for all African Americans on campus and the Rialto Unified School District, as we aren’t the only BSU club in the district. Like Rialto High School, Carter High School also participates in the trend, and even middle schools in the district.
During Black History Month, students’ arts are displaced in the Quad, including dancing, and singing. Joining this club will benefit you more than you think, as it embraces your culture and history. We may not have a long time to discuss, as our lunch is only 30 minutes, and it’s difficult when many students are in the opposite lunch, but despite all the problems and difficulties, we make the club work. If you are interested in joining and have further questions, please see Ms Bailey and Ms. Davis during lunchtime. “One step forward, two steps black”
